Reporting to the COO, the Director of Marketing and Recruitment (DMR) is responsible for developing and directing the blood center’s strategic marketing and recruitment plan to achieve annual collection goals. This position is responsible for management oversight of the department including budget, staffing administration, effectiveness assessment, and internal/external communication in alignment with Blood Bank of Hawaii’s (BBH) mission.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic and Operational Planning
Develops strategic marketing and recruitment plan for donor recruitment, ensuring that the goals are congruent with the overall mission and vision of the organization.
Oversees execution of the overall marketing and recruitment strategies, activities and services to the public in accordance with established policies, plans and directives.
Leads the department to expand and improve services and programs as stated in the departmental recruitment plan.
Develops robust account, territory and drive management practices.
Designs and implements community education programs, with FDA regulations, to encourage altruistic blood donation from the community.
Evaluates all marketing and recruitment programs for results from designated target segments and, if needed, modifies programs to maximize results.
Leadership and Management
Provides leadership, motivation and accountability through key performance indicators.
Effectively and collaboratively works with executive and senior management to improve the efficiency of operations, both within the department and on an organization-wide basis.
Encourages a departmental culture of open feedback, collaboration and trust. Establishes and maintains a climate of respect and professionalism.
Keeps current with advances in blood banking, OSHA, FDA, AABB, ABC, and other new developments which may affect the department. Researches, develops, implements, and monitors new procedures that may improve processes in the department. Networks with other blood centers to keep abreast of changes that they make to improve processes and review if these can improve processes at BBH.
Provides clear communication of department expectations and individual goals and ensures accountability.
Operational Efficiency and Effectiveness
Develops markets and business through effective implementation of strategies, programs and public outreach/education which measurably increase pint collections and donor base to attain established goals.
Continually works to improve the efficiency of operations collaborating with other department directors to facilitate the overall operational efficiency of the organization.
Develops, implements, and maintains a system of operational benchmarks to measure department productivity.
Researches, develops, implements and monitors new procedures to keep the department current with the advances in services, technology and blood banking.
Regulatory Compliance and Safety
Ensures that department activities are done within the regulatory requirements and assures the highest standard of performance at all times.
Creates, revises, reviews and signs off on all SOPs, documentation of staff training and on-going proficiency, direct observation, and competency.
Is knowledgeable and keeps abreast of current federal and state laws and regulations affecting the department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, with related degree.
1. Ten (10) plus years of experience in sales and marketing strategic planning with demonstrated success of strategic plans.
2. Five (5) years supervisory experience managing multi-level staff.
Proven sales and marketing skills with ability to do strategic and critical thinking, planning and follow through in managing department employees to achieve established targets.
Creativity in problem solving and successfully motivating people. Strong analytical, assessment, judgment and problem-solving skills.
Highly developed skills in human relations with proven ability to relate to diverse individuals and groups in a positive manner to build and maintain solid working relationships and customer service.
Goal-oriented, self- starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team to productively collaborate and meet established objectives.
Excellent verbal, listening and written skills with the ability to effectively communicate detailed information/instructions, ask pertinent/appropriate questions, comprehend and apply information.
Effective public speaking skills; ability to present information in a manner that is easy to understand by different audiences and which will motivate audience to support blood donation efforts and increase the blood donor base.
Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to maintain a professionalism, positive attitude and composure under time constraints.
Excellent management and leadership skills with ability to effectively lead teams of employees.
Detail oriented, accurate with excellent follow-through
Strong computer skills and proven proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Professional, business-like appearance.
Flexibility in schedule to meet deadlines and operational needs.
Able to travel between islands and out-of-state.
Valid Hawaii driver's license and use of own automobile in job.

About The Blood Bank of Hawaii
Blood Bank of Hawaii is a non-profit organization that provides lifesaving blood products to 11 civilian hospitals on Oahu and eight civilian hospitals on the neighbor islands. Blood is collected at one fixed site and through daily mobile collections. We employ more than 130 qualified professionals, including a medical director, collections staff and lab technicians, who recruit volunteer donors, collect blood, prepare components and distribute blood products.
