The Vice President for University Communications and Marketing reports to the President of the University and exercises a critical leadership role as the chief communications and marketing strategist for the University. The Vice President is a member of the President’s Cabinet, and, together with the University’s other senior administrators, shares broad responsibilities to advance the mission, reputation, and capacity of the University to fulfill its important purposes.
The Vice President oversees all aspects of the development and dissemination of the University’s public messaging, including: executive communications; branding, marketing, and advertising; enrollment marketing; public and media relations; publications and creative services; constituent communications, including messaging for donors and government officials; crisis communications; and digital and social media strategies, content, and architecture. The Vice President will develop and implement annual plans for strategic messaging, marketing and public relations initiatives and will oversee rigorous analysis of performance metrics and return-on-investment criteria. The Vice President will provide strategic public relations counsel to the President, to Vice Presidents, Deans, faculty, and others as necessary. The Vice President will also function, when appropriate, as an official Spokesperson for the University to media, to the Legislature, or in other public venues.
an advanced degree;
at least 10 years of significant experience and demonstrated success in communications and marketing;
knowledge of the public sector and, in particular, public higher education;
the ability to think strategically about the content of messages and about how to communicate critical messages effectively to various audiences;
strong organizational and administrative skills, and proven abilities to motivate and lead a team;
exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills for varied audiences;
deep knowledge of communication and marketing methodologies, including emerging digital media;
demonstrated ability to work effectively in the New Jersey, multi-state regional, and national environments;
comfort in working in a large and complex public organization; and,
commitment to, and skill in working in, a highly diverse, complex, and open university environment
